What this day is

Mutianyu is the section most guests should see: densely restored, ringed by forest, and far calmer than Badaling. The coach clears the city in about 90 minutes, which leaves four to five hours on site — enough to walk a real stretch of wall rather than photograph the first tower and turn back. A rural-style buffet lunch is included on the way back.

Good to know

  • The cable car queues badly in peak season. Walking up takes roughly 30–40 minutes if you would rather not wait.
  • Wear shoes with grip — several stretches between towers are steep and uneven.
  • The 08:00 departure gets you on the wall before the mid-morning crowds.
