What this day is
This is the full front-to-back approach: you start on Tian'anmen Square, pass through the gates on foot the way the palace was meant to be entered, then work north through the Forbidden City to the Royal Treasure Gallery. A professional guide and a designed route matter here — the complex is large enough that unguided visitors routinely walk the central axis and miss everything either side.

- Bring your passport — it is required for both the square and the palace.
- The tour ends at the North Gate, not where it started. Jingshan Park is directly opposite if you want the view back over the roofs.
